Senior Associate
Syed Afiq Syed Albakri is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution and Financial Crimes & Asset Recovery Practice Group of Messrs Zharif Nizamuddin.
He completed his pupillage at Messrs Sidek Teoh Wong & Dennis. Upon being admitted to the the Malaysian Bar in 2019, he continued his practice at Messrs Ariff & Co. His legal journey is characterized by a diverse range of experiences, with dispute resolution being his primary practice area with a strong background in both conveyancing practice and corporate commercial matters.
During his early years in practice, Syed Afiq advised various banks in the disbursement of loan facilities and the occasional disputed cases, and attended to the documentation and negotiation in relation to maritime matters such as the sale and purchase of vessels, charter party agreements and performed due diligence for the acquisition of a USD44 million jack-up drilling rig.
His experience extends across various legal domains, including Banking Law, Admiralty Law, Employment Law, Fraudulent Misrepresentation, Breach of Trust, Contractual Disputes, Debt Recovery, Disputed Legal Fees, Defamation, Vessel Charter Party Disputes, Corporate Disputes, and Execution of Judgments, including Bankruptcy and Winding Up.
He also attended to banking litigation proceedings in bulk for disputed and undisputed cases, and he oversaw the execution proceedings including bankruptcy and winding up proceedings, together with foreclosure proceedings at both the High Court and Land Office. As for general litigation matters, the cases which he has resolved includes defamation, employment, debt recovery, roadside infrastructure accidents, settlement negotiation and mediation.
Syed Afiq graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2018, where he was an active member and the founder of the International Law Club UiTM.
