Partner
Nurul Najwa Zainuddin is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution and Financial Crimes & Asset Recovery Practice Group.
Najwa started her legal journey as a legal assistant in a local law firm, primarily focusing on civil and banking litigation. Over time, she has delved into corporate commercial law, handling dynamic matters such as employment law, and general corporate advisory.
For the past 13 years, Najwa has been actively involved in litigation work, focusing in crafting bespoke solutions for her clients. This is especially true with settlements outside of the court’s sphere, which requires a personal touch and legal flair. Najwa is indisputably a proponent of alternative dispute resolutions particularly negotiations, firmly believing that well-negotiated settlements often yield more satisfactory outcomes for all parties involved.
Najwa has handled a diverse array of cases, including successfully defending a prominent former Menteri Besar and Member of Parliament’s constitutional rights up to the Federal Court. Najwa also played a significant role in representing a corporate client in a case related to the tort of conspiracy stemming from an open tender and the subsequent award of a RM10 million contract by the Royal Police Malaysia at the High Court level.
On numerous occasions, Najwa and her formidable team members have secured Mareva injunctions and effectively safeguarding the firm’s clients’ interests in cases involving large sums runnning into the tens of millions. In respect of corporate advisory, Najwa has provided invaluable legal opinion to a subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated, addressing issues related to employee misconduct and recommending appropriate courses of action. At present, Najwa is representing both a high net worth individual and a multi-million company in two separate suits against a local politician and his companies for alleged fraud and unjust enrichment, with claims in excess of RM29 million.
Beyond her legal practice, Najwa finds joy in maintaining an active lifestyle. Badminton is a sport that she regularly plays; the fast-paced nature of the game both physically and mentally challenging. Recently, she has also embraced hiking as a new interest, finding solace in the natural world and discovering new sights and sounds as a means to disconnect and realign herself.
Najwa was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya in 2010. She holds a Bachelor of Legal Studies (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi MARA. Following her interest in alternative dispute resolution, Najwa pursued and received her Diploma in International Arbitration at Brickfields Asia College in 2015.
