
Senior Associate
Muhammad Shakir is a Senior Associate in the Corporate Commercial Practice Group of Zharif Nizamuddin. He is actively involved in structuring and negotiating joint ventures, private equity and venture capital transactions, handling complex commercial projects, as well as advising on various private client matters.
In addition to his transactional work, Shakir remains engaged in dispute resolution and cross-border financial crime matters, having completed his pupillage in the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Financial Crimes & Asset Recovery Practice Group. He has also appeared before the traffic and criminal courts on a pro bono basis, assisting unrepresented individuals with mitigation proceedings and helping them navigate the justice system.
Shakir began his legal career as a paralegal in the Dispute Resolution, Construction, Engineering & Arbitration Practice at Zain & Co, while concurrently studying for the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). He has also interned at various local law firms, the international law firm Trowers & Hamlins, and at Maybank, Malaysia’s largest financial institution.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shakir was selected to represent his constituency in a digital youth parliament session, which attracted over 6,000 applicants nationwide. He also co-founded a short-term legal clinic in collaboration with a women’s rights NGO and served on the management committee of a local non-profit organisation focused on reducing educational inequality and empowering underprivileged youth in Malaysia.
Shakir was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2024. He obtained his undergraduate law degree from Taylor’s University and subsequently completed the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). He currently serves on the National Young Lawyers & Pupils Committee and the AI, Cyberlaw and Data Protection Committee for the 2026/2027 term.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing volleyball and is a certified open water diver.
