Elias

Elias Yusri Zamri is a Senior Associate in a hybrid role under the firm's Corporate Commercial and Financial Crimes & Asset Recovery practice groups.
 

He began his legal career as a pupil-in-chambers at A. M. Zaharil & Co., where he was exposed to commercial civil and criminal litigation. He then joined Swan & Partners, focusing on banking and general civil litigation. During this period, he gained hands-on experience in preparing cause papers, managing trial processes, and appearing in hearings and full trials at the subordinate courts.
 

From 2014 to 2021, he served as Assistant Director, Legal at a statutory body established under the Land Development Act 1956. His role primarily involved providing legal advice to management, handling litigation and dispute matters, and supporting the organization’s operations as an in-house counsel. He also liaised closely with various government and law enforcement agencies, and his tenure included participation in numerous high-impact national initiatives.
 

Between 2015 and 2017, he concurrently served as the Legal Officer for the organization’s football club, acting as sole counsel. He advised on contractual and disciplinary matters involving FAM and AFC regulations, and was directly involved in drafting and reviewing various agreements related to player’s contracts, sponsorships, and licensing compliance.
 

He then joined a law enforcement agency responsible for regulating and policing Malaysia’s capital markets in 2021, where he served as a Manager in the Enforcement Business Group. In this role, he was involved in regulatory enforcement and investigations into financial and securities-related offences. His work encompassed financial due diligence, securities fraud investigations, compliance reviews, and inter-agency coordination involving both public and private sector stakeholders. He also demonstrated strong data analytical and project management capabilities throughout his time there.

While currently based in London on a sabbatical, Elias continues to support Zharif Nizamuddin’s international capabilities. He serves as a strategic liaison for Malaysian clients with commercial interests in the United Kingdom and Europe, particularly where coordination, oversight, or client representation is required. Elias works closely with the firm’s Partners and with local advisors as needed, helping ensure continuity, cultural alignment, and responsiveness across jurisdictions. His presence abroad reflects the firm’s commitment to serving clients with cross-border needs while remaining anchored in Malaysian legal expertise.
 

Elias was called as an Advocate & Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Universiti Teknologi MARA, awarded in 2010, following a Bachelor of Legal Studies (Honours) from the same institution in 2009.
